Furniture Care & Maintenance Guide
At Jameson Seating, we are passionate about helping you protect and preserve your commercial and hospitality furniture. Our expert care and maintenance advice is designed to ensure that every piece from tables and chairs to sofas and outdoor seating, remains in excellent condition for years to come.
Whether your furniture is placed indoors in a busy restaurant or lounge, or outdoors exposed to the elements, our comprehensive guide offers practical tips, cleaning techniques, and protective measures so that you can maintain both its appearance and functionality. By following these recommendations, you can therefore keep your furniture looking beautiful, performing well, and retaining its value over time.
Care and Maintenance
-
Clean wooden and laminate tabletops with a warm, damp cloth and a little diluted washing-up liquid. Avoid sprays, waxes, or anti-bacterial cleaners, as they can damage the lacquer, leave sticky marks, or soften the finish.
-
Use table mats to protect your tabletops from heat and scratches.
-
For glass tabletops, clean with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly to prevent smears. If the top is removable, handle it carefully when taking it off.
-
Clean granite or marble tabletops according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
-
Avoid rough or sharp-edged tableware that could scratch or mark your tabletops. Never drag tables, as this can weaken the joints.
-
If your tables use nuts and bolts, check them regularly and tighten as needed.
Important Information
Wooden tabletops are typically finished with an acid-catalyst lacquer, though polyurethane lacquer offers better heat resistance.
Our lacquers meet BS6250 standards, but no lacquer is completely scratch-proof, nor can it withstand continuous exposure to very hot dishes without some marking.
Jameson Seating Ltd cannot accept liability if wooden tabletops are cleaned with D10 or similar sanitisers, or if these care recommendations are not followed.
Wood Care
- Use a warm, damp cloth with a little diluted washing-up liquid to clean wooden and laminate chairs and stools.
- Avoid using sprays, waxes or anti-bacterial cleaners, as these can damage the lacquer, leave sticky marks or soften the finish.
- The nuts and bolts on bentwood chairs should be checked regularly and tightened if necessary.
Upholstery
- Upholstery (fabric and leather) should be cleaned in accordance with the fabric manufacturers’ instructions.
- Upholstered products may be vacuumed or brushed carefully to remove dust.
- Faux leather should only be cleaned using warm soapy water and then dried. We strongly advise you do not use chemical cleaners as these may cause hardening and cracking.
Durability Tips
- Foam will soften over a period of time.
- Some fabrics and leathers may stretch over time, for further details contact the manufacturer prior to specification.
- Do not drag chairs, sofas or stools as the joints will be weakened.
- Avoid leaning on the two back legs of a chair, as this will cause stress to the frame and may lead to breakage.
Wood Care
- Wooden components of outdoor furniture should be treated with an approved timber oil at least twice during the outdoor season.
- Timbers such as oak, larch, teak and iroko will change colour over a period of time, often turning a silvery colour.
- We recommend that wooden outdoor furniture should be protected from weather during the winter.
Upholstery & Cushions
- Cushions or other items of upholstery used with outdoor furniture should not be left outside during rain or other inclement weather. Customers will get wet if they sit on a wet cushion.
Metal Care
- An approved oil should be regularly applied to metal parts that move (e.g. hinged components) to avoid rust or seizing up.
